January 20, 2014 Portland Urban Hike

The other day I suggested to Bruce that we go for a hike and he proposed that we take an urban hike in the city instead.  Even better!

It was a beautiful, sunny, COLD day in Portland as we walked along Willamette River and crossed the Steel and Morrison Bridges.

We passed lots of joggers and cyclists, people taking a stroll and families on outings.

We passed a Moonstruck Chocolate Cafe which we've driven by many times on 23rd Avenue but never gone in, so I thought this was my chance!  The perfect opportunity to check it out!  Bruce ended up with a malted creamy caramel hot chocolate and I got a half milk half dark chocolate drinking chocolate.  Both were DELICIOUS.  The best hot chocolate I've ever had.  For sure.

After all, they're hot for chocolate.

Hehehahehaheha.

When we got Moonstruck, we were actually en route here for lunch!  Sizzle Pie!  I had heard about it and checked out their weird pizza combinations on their online menu.  Had to try it.

Bruce got Bad Lieutenant (Sausage and Onion) and South of Heaven (Pepperoni, fresh Jalapeños, and fresh Mushrooms)

I tried Ace of Spades (classic Pepperoni) and Volume 11 (Spinach, Roaster Garlic, Kalamata Olives and Feta).

Great stuff.  Can't wait to go back.

After that we check out Powell's Books which is always crowded.  I love that.
Then on to Anthropologie and some other odd & end shops along the way...

Until........

...... Salt & Straw.  Of course.  No trip to the city is complete without S&S ice cream.  That day I tried
The Elvis - swirled into a banana pudding ice cream, you will find Marionberry Jam from Oregon Hill Farms along with homemade peanut butter cookie dough and pralined bacon.  With Cinnamon Snickerdoodle.

Bruce had what he's dubbed the "alcoholic's breakfast" - Candy Cap Mushroom with Port Red Wine and Coffee & Bourbon.  It makes sense because the Candy Cap Mushroom has a great maple flavor.

He's saving that for later....
